Indira Kala Sangeet University is Asia’s first ranked musical university established in 1956 by the rulers of Khairagarhthe, King Birendra Bahadur Singh and Queen Padmavati Devi, who had donated their palace to open a university of music, dance and visual arts. The university was named after their daughter Indira Devi who died young and was fond of music. Now this university runs under the Government of Chhattisgarh and it is the oldest University of Chhattisgarh and celebrated Golden Jubilee in 2006.

Indira Kala Sangeet University has a collection of Indian contemporary master painters, folk & artists from different regions. University has a collection of more than 40000 books, audiotapes, CDs, Videos of Indian masters.
