National Institute of Technology, Warangal, earlier named as Regional Engineering College has been established on 10th October, 1959 and was inaugurated by Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Among 30 NITs in India, it is the first of the chain. Currently, the institute has some advance research centers and 13 academic departments. With the financial aid from UNESCO, UK and World Bank and the institute is now a single door hub to highly standard technical education.
Spread over 248 Acre, NIT Warangal has 12 residential blocks. Equipped with extraordinary infrastructure and excellent modern amenities, the institute grabbed 13th rank among all the technical institutes of the country according to a survey from NASSCOM. The institute comes under the status of Institutes of National Importance and awarded also the status of deemed University.
